The Greenland Opportunity

Developing the investment thesis for Greenland

About the project

Greenland is more than a land of stunning landscapes and ancient traditions; it is a nation standing at a generational crossroads. As the world’s largest island, it possesses an "unfair advantage" found nowhere else on Earth: a territory larger than the five biggest countries in Europe combined, built on a 100% cratonic foundation—the planet's oldest and most mineral-rich crust.

For centuries, Greenland’s extreme Arctic conditions and remote geography made it one of the hardest places on Earth to do business. But today, the world is changing. As global stability fractures and the "material economy" returns to the forefront, Greenland’s isolated strategic position and vast reserves of rare earths, strategic minerals, and 10% of the world's freshwater have become the essential building blocks of the 21st century.

The Greenland Opportunity is a roadmap to freedom. It outlines a bold vision to transform Greenland’s immense natural wealth—estimated at over $800 billion USD in known resources—into real, lasting prosperity and economic independence. By moving from a passive resource owner to a proactive "strategic wealth manager," Greenland can finally leverage its unique edge to secure the well-being of its people and control its own destiny.

The report is based on:

  • A rigorous assessment of Greenland's starting point and factors of production.
  • High-level simulations of the "Greenland Sovereign Wealth Fund."
  •  Analysis of global megatrends and the shifting world order.
  • Strategic modeling of the "Commodity Trader" approach for resource management.

About the paper

Publication date: 2026

This report presents a transformative investment-focused analysis of Greenland, developed using the FRONTTIER framework to bridge the gap between potential and reality. It moves beyond the "Greenland Paradox"—the idea that the nation's economic relevance only emerges when the world is under stress—to create a durable, self-reliant economic model.

The thesis highlights four key segments: realizing known natural capital, lowering realization costs, streamlining the existing economy, and uncovering the value of "Unknown Greenland". It advocates for a shift to the Commodity Trader model, allowing Greenland to maintain sovereignty and control over its assets while utilizing global expertise to extract value. More than just a financial assessment, this report serves as a strategic guide to turn a "hidden treasure" into a foundation for true economic freedom
